Echee Says....

I see Emma as 1.) Pretentious-claiming distinction while creating a deceptive appearance of great worth. 2.) Ostentatious-giving a conspicuous show in an attempt to impress. 3.) Deceptive-giving an impression different from the true one. 4.) Hypocrite–acts in contradiction to stated beliefs or feelings. 5.) Contradictive-inherent factors, actions, or propositions are inconsistent or contrary to one another.

 1) ...creating a deceptive appearance of great worth

Not sure what this means, but I would say most celebrities do this to some degree. They have PR people and they market themselves. It is a business.

2 ) Ostentatious-giving a conspicuous show in an attempt to impress

Maybe sometimes. A lot of the time she seems to keep a low profile. She is not overly ostentatious in general. She may seem that way during a premiere or awards show or something. The celebrities that go to the Oscars are trying to impress people on that night. Again this is part of the business.

It is somewhat of a paradox. Celebrities don't always want attention, but if they don't get any attention then their careers are probably not going well. Emma does a pretty good job keeping a low profile in school then a Lancome event pops up or she does another movie and she gets some attention, then she goes back to school and keeps a low profile again.

Nothing wrong with that strategy at all, Echee!

3) Deceptive-giving an impression different from the true one

She has said some dumb things in Women's magazines which seem a bit contradictory at times. And there is a difference between private Emma and the public image. Again most famous people fall into this category to some degree.

4) Hypocrite–acts in contradiction to stated beliefs or feelings. 5.) Contradictive-inherent factors, actions, or propositions are inconsistent or contrary to one another.

So she doesn't wear People Tree clothes. Big deal! Who cares? She put Safia Minney and People Tree on the Map. She helped the Fair Trade moment. Many celebrities use their celebrity image to support something but then don't always strictly adhere to in their private lives.
